Wired

I ordered 3 bags of whole bean organic espresso from Amazon. When it came, I noticed that all three bags were due to expire almost right away. I am using the word 'expire' lightly.... this just means that the beans won't be as fresh. So, I contacted Amazon, and they offered to send out three more bags overnight for free, and because they aren't allowed to accept food returns, I am able to 'dispose' of the original shipment as I like. Obviously, 'dispose' in this case means grind, brew, and drink. The new bags came today, and they all expire before February. So, here we are with 6 unopened bags of espresso beans that all need to be used soon, plus 3 unopened bags of some fair-trade Guatemalan, and leftovers from Christmas. That's quite a bit of coffee for two people, especially considering Monk's tea habit! Perhaps I should stock up on organic milk and start inviting over the neighbors.....

Simplify

My neighbor came by with about two years worth of back issues to Real Simple.... Needless to say, I was delighted! Between this and my current subscriptions to MSL, Bon Appétit, and Cooking Light, I am having a hard time keeping up! But, what a nice way to repurpose old magazines!

Happy Mew Year!

Well, you probably celebrated New Year's Day yesterday, but if you're a cat, you'll be celebrating today. Happy Mew Year! This is an actual observance, and if you're in Chicago, you can have your feline friend (or canine) spayed or neutered for free! (A surprisingly good move on the part of the city of Chicago....)

So, take today off and celebrate with your cat!

How Times Have Changed...

What's your New Year's resolution? About 4,000 years ago, the most popular Ancient Babylonian New Year's resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment...
